Idea Box
The idea box is used to generate different possible combinations of ideas. I plan on using the Idea Box as a final assessment in class for social studies, or as a way to create many different stories in writing. Here is a lesson plan from http://www.creativelearning.com/creative-problem-solving/free-resources to illustrate how to implement this idea for writing. In this example it is called a morphological matrix, but it is similar to the idea box. In order to generate as many ideas as possible, a chart with columns is put in the front of the room. Students then list all the possible contexts for a story they can think of, possible settings, possible characters, and plots. They then choose one option from each column and write a story using those elements. You can use less columns for younger students, or choose one that will be the same for everyone.
